COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP PROGRAMS
Upcoming Events Calendar | Coffee With a Cop | Youth Safety Talks | Citizens Police Academy

Chief Maples and the Chillicothe Police Department are implementing some new programs at the Chillicothe PD. We want your feedback!

One of our programs is Coffee With a Cop. The key to Coffee with a Cop is that it opens the door for interactions outside of the crisis situations which typically bring law enforcement officers and community members together. Citizens of Chillicothe and surrounding areas can come and talk to the police officers and get to know them on a different level.

On Wednesday morning, October 2, 2019, members of the Chillicothe Police Department took part in National Coffee with a Cop Day at the Chillicothe McDonald's. Police Chief Jon Maples was joined by several officers, dispatchers, and detectives at the event, which gave those in attendance a chance to visit with citizens. Maples said that building good relationships Is an ongoing mission.

Secondly, we are bringing back our Youth Safety Talks. During our Youth Safety Talks, we partner with prior drug offenders who are in recovery and want to make a change in their community by partnering with us. We want to do this to get a head start with the youth of our community and show them that we are there to help them and prevent wrongful actions in the future.

On May 2, the Chillicothe Police Department partnered with Gateway Recovery and members of our community - Kati Johnson and Willy Deardorff - to present a drug safety talk to the Lifepoint Church Aftershock Youth Group.

Third, we are excited to announce that we began accepting applications for our first annual Citizens Police Academy in July of 2018. We accepted 12 applications for this 8-week Academy. The classes are held every Monday from 6p-8p for 8 consecutive weeks. Attendees will be exposed to many facets of law enforcement and a variety of class topics plus given the opportunity to meet many members of the Chillicothe Police Department and the law enforcement community. Course topics include: Police/Sheriff Facility Tours, Traffic Stops, Police Budgeting, Investigations, Defensive Tactics, Crime Scene Work, and Ride Alongs. We hope to provide an environment that will foster improved relationships between police and community. The Citizen's Police Academy should prove to be a very popular program within our Community Policing efforts. It is our desire that the graduates will become partners with us in identifying problems and solutions to the quality of life issues that face our community. We trust that graduates of the program will have a greater understanding of our mission and the vision we share in making the City of Chillicothe a better and safer place to live, work, and raise a family. If you're interested in attending a future academy, please download and complete our Application Form.

Finally, our officers have been working on a Church Security Program PowerPoint. Over time, we would like to meet with any of the local churches about church security and show them how to prevent critical incidents within their church.

We need your feedback on these programs. We want to create a partnership with our community and build the best relationship we can with our community. We are in the beginning stages of planning for these events, so that is why we would appreciate your feedback. Call us, email us, message us or send us a comment on our Facebook page, or tweet us on our Twitter page.
